A Missouri woman, Christina Huntspon, is facing charges in the death of her four-year-old daughter from a drug overdose, as reported by the St. Louis Police Department.

Huntspon, 32, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child – death of a child in the first degree, and was jailed on a $500,000 cash-only bond.

The young girl was found unresponsive in her father's bed at their residence in Jennings, just outside of St. Louis, with indications of a drug overdose.

Police discovered several capsules of suspected heroin in the home where the child was found unresponsive, leading to suspicions of drug involvement.

Despite efforts to provide medical aid, the child was pronounced dead at a local hospital, indicating the severity of the situation.

The child's father had legal custody due to the mother's extensive drug use, with reports indicating the mother's addiction even during pregnancy.

Huntspon admitted to her drug addiction and using heroin in the home on the morning of her daughter's death, acknowledging her addiction may have contributed to the tragedy.

The incident is under investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons.
